WHAT IS COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a present-focused and collaborative approach to therapy created by Aaron Beck, PhD. CBT identifies the connection between how our thoughts impact the way that we perceive ourselves, others and the future. With a focus on the role of how thoughts affect emotions and lead to both effective and ineffective behaviors, CBT empowers the individual to make positive changes in their life.  Through the use of skill building and cognitive restructuring, CBT fosters long-term results that can improve your overall quality of life. CBT has been extensively researched as one of the most effective therapy modalities and has been found to be equivalent to, or superior to antidepressant and anti-anxiety medications in treating depression and anxiety in numerous scientific studies.

WHAT DOES CBT WORK TO TREAT?

CBT has been shown to be highly effective in treating depression, anxiety, insomnia, OCD, chronic pain and other common diagnoses in children, adolescents and adults.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

You can expect an active approach to therapy that may include handouts, reading materials and homework assignments. The expectation is that sustained change does not happen simply during the session time, but that real change involves taking insights gained inside therapy sessions and applying it to life outside.
